Pimp or Die

I know its all about creative expression and being unique and stylish but how far is too far when it comes to ‘nailia? Have you seen this shirt? “Pimp or Die” – Really? … Are you serious? – Are you freaking kidding me!?!? I guess the bigger question is could, would or should you wear this jawn? I mean what does it say about, your organization and your feeling and/or expressions about our women? “

Let me be honest – I own shirts and ‘nalia that are quite suggestive in various ways to express my feelings towards certain things I like, dis-like, the way I think of myself, other people and other Black Greek Letter Organizations - but for me this is over the line.

My brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. let me just make it plain – ain’t nothing good, cool, decent or respectable about a Pimp or Pimpin’!

The act of Pimpin’ is unjust, unmerited and ungood (yes un-good) - and for men of achievement to own and or wear this shirt is wrong! Its beneath you and spits in the face of our founders who diligently worked to create an organization for men of good moral character, principles and respect.

Lets be clear - while we all know the Nupes are the lovers of the Divine 9 (smile) – we do not and should not ever give the impression or suggestion that we consider our women as property, objects or chattel.

The fact that someone would create this shirt using our colors, depicting a silhouette of a brother shooting the “Yo” and showcasing the year of our founding all above the words “Pimp or Die” means somebody is not only disrespecting women but Black men and our beloved fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi.

In my opinion that someone, ignorant or not to the ways and lore’s of Kappa needs to be gripped up, yanked by the throat, horse-collared, sent to meet the Doc, tossed in the cut and inducted into the century club with no stops down the kane alley!!!

For those you that know me personally know the comments mentioned above are a bit out of the norm for me… but I am really feeling some type of way about this shirt.

Its time that we as a people stop embracing negative stereotypes and terms as good shyt because it ain’t!

As for me stepping out of character because of this shirt – yea I must be getting soft in my old age because I usually would respond by saying - in the words of Garfield the Cat - that motherf’er needs to be “dragged out in the streets and shot!”

It’s hard out here for a pimp… and it should be dammit!
